Holiday Season: Homes Cleaned By Design With Ask Cindy
a family reading together on the couch during the holiday season

Welcome, October! 🍂 As the fall season approaches, specific cues prompt us to prepare our homes for the upcoming holiday festivities and the gatherings that come with the season. Over the years, I’ve learned that any home can achieve impressive visual results with structured and intentional approaches to house cleaning tasks!

We love this time of year, but holiday cleaning and food prep activities can be overwhelming. I can help you with the cleaning portion during this busy time.

Implementing these dos and don’ts when structuring a cleaning plan will be helpful

“Do” Remember To:

  • Create a cleaning schedule for when and where to begin and stop. This action supports an orderly flow for task accomplishment.
  • Select and gather cleaning supplies and tools before you get started. Stop-and-go cleaning destroys timelines.
  • Clear the room or area of clutter first. This will save time during the cleaning process.
  • Work from top to bottom. Dust and dirt will fall, so clean high first, such as ceiling fans and lighting fixtures.
  • Use the appropriate tools and cleaning solutions for the right task. For example, use Ask Cindy glass cleaner when cleaning windows, glass fixtures, and sealed countertop surfaces. Achieve beautiful, clear, and streak-free results. Wood: A specifically formulated polish product is required for cleaning wood furnishings.
  • Always read and follow the label instructions for cleaning products.
  • Entryways, hallways, and floor surfaces in high-traffic areas will require special attention because they receive a lot of use.
  • Using eco-friendly products reduces chemical exposure, although it may require a second wiping.
  • When cleaning, ventilate the work area by opening a window or turning on a fan.

“Don’t” Forget To:

  • Avoid combining different cleaning products that contain bleach and ammonia; this creates toxic fumes. There are other examples of cleaning agents that shouldn’t be mixed. Please do the research!
  • Avoid using the same cleaning cloth for multiple surfaces or items while cleaning, which can spread contaminating germs and dirt. Remember to replace your cleaning clothes regularly for an immaculate result.
  • Do not forget to wear rubber gloves to protect your skin from cleaning chemicals.
  • Ensure that cleaning products and tools are out of reach to children and pets.
  • Abstain from overpouring cleaning product amounts. This can damage surfaces and items during the cleaning process. Follow the pour ratios as indicated on the product label.
  • Avoid waiting too long between cleanings. When you do decide to engage in the clean-up process, it will require more time and energy. Dirt and debris can build up in any space over time.

Another critical fact to remember is that cleaning and disinfecting should be approached differently. The universal instruction for killing or eliminating germs and viruses on surfaces and objects is to use specific cleaning and disinfecting products. This is critical for effectively killing germs and viruses and lowering the risk of spreading infection after cleaning.

Thus, cleaning with a soap and water solution only weakens germs, dirt, and impurities on surfaces and objects. While this is a phenomenal beginning point, soap and water alone will not eliminate or kill bacteria and germs! Clorox Anywhere is one of my favorite cleaning and disinfecting agents because it is effective and, most importantly, safe to use on most surfaces and around children and pets!
